DELTA 2015: OBUH-PHOBIA, INTEGRITY IN THE SAND OF HISTORY. By VINCENT JUDE JR. It is no longer strange to read through the pages of newspapers and social media the alarming, sharp and envious fears in many political camps in virtually all the political parties in Delta State, especially the ruling Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, since the emergence and entrance of Mr. Tony Chuks Obuh into the guber 2015 race. To state the obvious, the eloquent and oratory noble gentleman, lately has come under serious media attacks and become a threat to all the aspirants on the PDP platform who have posted malicious , derogatory and inflammatory comments about him to win the sympathy of Deltans (who already accepted Mr. Tony Obuh) just to score cheap political goal(s). Today, the mere mention of the name Tony Obuh rings a bell across the nooks and crannies of Delta State and sends goose pimples down the spines of the some self-acclaimed experienced politicians especially the many governorship aspirants contesting for the states number ONE seat. For this reason, the political climate in the state in the recent past have remained tensed up for fear that Mr. Tony Obuh, with his sudden popularity and general acceptance could possibly succeed the incumbent amiable governor Emmanuel Uduaghan next year. Interestingly, I note with considerable satisfaction that those critics who are so pessimistic about their political future and chances of winning the governorship primaries slated for next month (Nov. 29th) and the 2015 guber election are already accepting defeat before the race and equally making themselves girlie men unnecessarily working themselves into exhaustion. Mr. Tony Obuhs political popularity is attributed to several factors ranging from the fact that some myopic political actors in the state , who are loosing sleeps over his emergence to those who believes he has the backing and sponsor of state governor. They argue that as a retired permanent secretary in the states civil service, hes not eminently qualified to run the guber race. A very parochial reasoning l must say. Another group feels that politics should be left for politicians alone, and as such, Mr. Tony Obuh should not venture into politics. However, we all need to know that no one needs to be told that such assertion is baseless and holds no waters. ln the light of all these, l must not fail to state that it is quite unfortunate that it is only in this part of the world that self-acclaimed experienced politicians bring up such issues when it is constitutionally clear that the man Tony Obuh reserves the right to vote and be voted for as a free citizen of Delta state. Constitutionally , Mr. Tony Obuh is legally and eminently qualified to aspire for any political office in Delta state and Nigeria at large and nothing should stop him from indicatIng interest to serve his people. Hes a man of integrity and clean sheet without criminal record unlike some of the self-acclaimed qualified politicians. It is laughable and absolutely uncalled for, for anyone who feels threatened by Mr. Tony Obuhs emergence to assert that he ( Obuh) should qeueu behind them because hes a retired civil servant . In fact, it is a political miscalculation for these fearful propagandists to think that they can talk down this rare gem and man of honour who served the state meritorious for 32 years on the pages of newspapers and social media. Nonetheless, propaganda and cheap blackmail cannot stop the man, Tony Obuh. I cannot but conclude that Deltans cannot afford to cast their votes for politicians who for many years confiscated and pocketed resources meant to better their lives, but will rather embrace the fact that of more worth is one good and God fearing man to a society and in the sight of God than many crowned liars. Mr. Tony Obuh is God sent and a man whose integrity and antecedents speak ; and today he has written his name in the sand of history as the only man to give politicians sleepless nights because of his popularity and acceptability. Vote integrity, Vote Mr. Tony Obuh for governor, Delta State , 2015.
