DEMOCRATIC senator, Marty Block, sold out California to the - TopicsExpress

DEMOCRATIC senator, Marty Block, sold out California to the fracking industry by voting against our fracking moratorium bill, SB 1132 -- even though an overwhelming majority of Californians support a moratorium on fracking. As a result, the bill died on the Senate floor. As a constituent, your voice carries a lot of weight in holding Senator Block accountable for this terrible vote. Will you call Senator Block and express your outrage that he voted to sell out Californians to the fracking industry? Tell Senator Block: Its appalling that you voted to frack California. Shame on you. Click here for a sample script and the number to call. Big Oil spent a jaw-dropping $15 million on lobbying during the 2013-2014 legislative session trying to buy influence in Sacramento -- and, unfortunately, its clear that the industry got results: Senator Block is one of eight Democrats who caved to the oil industry by voting against the bill or skipping the vote. We elect Democrats like Senator Block because we want them to do the right thing -- especially when theyre under intense pressure from corporate lobbyists -- not throw California under the bus to avoid the wrath of the oil industry. Senator Block needs to know that there are consequences to voting with Big Oil. Please call his office today and call out his shameful vote. Click here for a sample script and the number to call. CREDO activists played a key role in the fight to pass SB 1132. We submitted nearly 22,000 letters of support for the bill, reported making more than 2,300 calls in support of the bill, packed every committee hearing to speak out for the bill, and led a dozen meetings with our legislators and their staff to urge their support. And, although the bill failed, the majority of Democrats listened. Of the 16 Democrats who voted for Senator Holly Mitchells and Mark Lenos bill, six -- Senators Ellen Corbett, Mark DeSaulnier, Loni Hancock, Hannah-Beth Jackson, Ted Lieu and Lois Wolk -- signed on as co-authors. Eight more -- Senators Jim Beall, Kevin de León, Noreen Evans, Carol Liu, William Monning, Alex Padilla, Fran Pavley and Darrell Steinberg -- voted for the bill on Thursday. Senator Jerry Hill voted for the bill earlier in the week and in committee, but, according to his office, missed the final vote because he wasnt in the room. The oil industry has a lot of money and a lot of power to get its way in Sacramento, but from the fight against the Keystone XL pipeline to local campaigns to ban fracking in cities across the country, weve seen the power of grassroots activism to overcome Big Oil -- so we have to double down and keep organizing to protect California from fracking. And that starts with holding accountable the senators who voted with the oil industry. Senator Block needs to know that there are consequences to voting with Big Oil. Please call his office today and call out his shameful vote. Click here for a sample script and the number to call. Thank you for fighting fracking.
