DEPRESSION and SUICIDE. Whenever someone takes the drastic step - TopicsExpress

DEPRESSION and SUICIDE. Whenever someone takes the drastic step of ending their life in the depths of depression there are many reactions to such an act, especially when that person is well known. Many of you will be aware that I have been at the bottom (the reasons dont matter) on more than one occasion and the thought of suicide has gone through my mind although I never felt I had to take that route. Having said that there have been times when I didnt really want to wake up the next day. One of the reactions (and I have seen it from friends of mine) is that this act is one of selfishness. The only way I can explain it is by the following : A person in the depths of depression can actually believe it would be better for their family and friends if they werent around anymore . . . if they were no longer a huge burden to everyone. They believe the only way they can make things better for everyone is to end their own life. In my opinion, this takes immense courage and is a selfless act and NOT selfish. I am too much of a coward. Maybe thats I am still here. Please try and appreciate what depression can do to people. If you aint been there it is very difficult to understand. OSM
