► DEPUTY VICE_CHANCELLOR (Learning, Teaching and Student Services) The USP is one of two regional universities in the world and is the leading tertiary education provider and research facility in the South Pacific. Forty-six years old, USP is now a mid-sized university with over 27,000 students around the Pacific region. The University aspires to excellence in Learning, Teaching and Student Services. The USP wishes to appoint an outstanding senior academic leader to the position of Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Learning, Teaching and Student Services). This position, reporting directly to the Vice-Chancellor and President, is an exciting opportunity for an experienced academic leader with a champion’s commitment to learning and teaching. The appointee will provide dynamic leadership in learning and teaching by collaborative implementation of the LTSS strategic plan in its various distributive modes and deliver the University’s expectations as defined in its Strategic Plan. This will require strong leadership, a proven record of achievement, cooperation with other members of the senior management team, innovation, entrepreneurship, teamwork, and close liaison with staff of the Faculties and Institutes as well as with students and the students’ association. The University has given priority to high quality, relevant and future oriented learning and teaching and to excellence in student support and services in its new Strategic Plan, 2013-2018. The DVC (Learning and Teaching) will be responsible for: • Strategic leadership of the USP’s Learning and Teaching Policy and Plan, particularly in the context of ensuring quality, relevance and sustainability and developing a fully engaged culture of learning and teaching excellence; • Leading flexible education including OER integration and College of Foundation Studies programs; • Leading the continuous improvements, implementation and excellence standards of the multi-year Strategic Total Academic Review (STAR); • Enhancing student experience through oversight of high quality student services; • Contributing to the leadership and management of the University. You will lead a range of skilled colleagues collaboratively in implementing the LTSS Plan. As an advocate who facilitates a positive climate of continuous improvement within the University, you will continuously look for and foster innovative strategies to advance sustained learning and teaching engagement at the University and within the larger community. You are able to persuasively influence staff and students to embrace the cultural diversity of the University. The successful appointee will be a senior academic leader with strong demonstrated senior leadership experience and skills. Applicants must have a PhD; extensive experience in learning and teaching activities in a university context; policy development and implementation; and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. The appointee will be expected to be highly innovative and creative, and have already achieved the rank of Professor or be eligible for such rank. This position is based in Suva.
