A source who spoke to our correspondent in confidence said Mr. Offiong Offiong (SAN), a long time lawyer of Governor Lamido, and some other lawyers are following the case. The source also told Daily Trust that no Jigawa government official is under detention at the moment but that some were invited for questioning. The source said some government officials including directors were questioned. Meanwhile Governor Lamido returned to Dutse from Sokoto yesterday evening where he attended meeting of the G-7 governors Aminu and Mustapha Lamido were arres-ted Thursday night at their residences in Kano and brought to the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) head office in Abuja. They are being interrogated over allegations of money laundering of about N10 billion, accroding to EFCC sources. EFCC spokesman Wilson Uwujaren told Daily Trust yesterday that “they are still with us, interrogation has not been concluded.” He said, however, a date for arraignment of the suspects has not been determined. A top EFCC source also told Daily Trust yesterday: “The problem is that we want to do a thorough job and consult with our lawyers before they are arraigned, we don’t want a situation where they are bailed and asked to keep returning for more questioning.” The investigation of Lamido’s sons is part what sources say are wider investigations of money laundering targeting the states governed by the G7 governors who formed a faction of the ruling PDP. Officials of several banks have been in custody of the State Security Service (SSS) since last week, answering questions on finances of the seven states. Apart from Jigawa, the other six states affected are Kano, Kwara, Niger, Sokoto, Adamawa and Rivers.
