DEVOTION365 But God is the Judge: He puts down one, And exalts another. Psalm 75:7 We come to Christ because He offers eternal life. Often we turn our lives over to Him in times of crisis, when weve made a complete mess of everything in our lives. The problem is that we still have to navigate our way through this life to get to the next. Sometimes in our walk with Him we dont understand Gods judgments in our lives. We arent happy with our circumstances and have prayed about it and things dont move. We have faith, live right, confess sin, and still nothing. Is God just toying with us or do we expect too much from Him? Christ told us, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome the world.” (John 16:33). In 2 Corinthians 12:7 (NKJV) Paul tells us, And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. When we are humbled by our circumstances, and God doesnt seem to be listening, is it because our perception of our circumstance is exaggerated? That certainly depends on the situation. The kids driving us crazy on a car trip is not the same as having a child struggling with drug addiction. Our faith tells us that we should trust in God because He will supply all our needs. What are we willing to accept from God? What are we willing to take responsibility for? How do we change the priorities in our life? How do we align them with Gods priorities? How can we accept Gods judgments for our lives? These are all questions that we, as Christians, will struggle with sometime in our lives. Only God knows why and only God can supply us with the strength to get through trouble. He raises the poor from the dust And lifts the beggar from the ash heap, To set them among princes And make them inherit the throne of glory. For the pillars of the earth are the LORDs, And He has set the world upon them. 1 Samuel 2:8 (NKJV) Prayer: Father God, I ask for strength in my time of trouble, understanding that the path you direct me toward is sometimes obstructed by problems that, apart from you, I can neither surmount nor understand. Grant me the strength to be patient, the wisdom to remain encouraged, and the faith to be joyful in every circumstance. I trust you, Lord. In Jesus’ Name. Amen. Meditation: Contemplate the difficult thought that God is sovereign and His judgments will sometimes be beyond our ability to understand. We are not always going to be delighted with our circumstances. Go to God with all your concerns, questions, and doubts. Remember, in the Bible, Job, who lost everything, and the prophet Habakkuk, who was appalled at the idolatry and worldliness of his fellow Jews, both questioned God’s judgments. God does not object to questions, He objects to disobedience to His answers.
