DEWNR Prescribed burn at Stonyfell Quarry A prescribed burn is planned at Stonyfell Quarry for Thursday, 15 May 2014, weather conditions permitting. • The prescribed burn will start at 10am and should be complete by 6pm. • The planned burn will incorporate 12.5 hectares, Horsnell Gully area adjacent to Coach Road. • Motorists are advised to slow down and take care when driving on nearby roads. • Smoke may affect Ridge Road and Woods Hill Road at Horsnell Gully/Ashton. The burn will be carried out by the Department of Environment, Water and Natural Resources (DEWNR), CFS and SA Water. The objective of the prescribed burn is to reduce the likelihood of contiguous vegetation burning in a single large fire event. A list of the week’s planned burns is available on the DEWNR website, at environment.sa.gov.au/firemanagement/Burns_and_bushfires Prescribed burns will only be carried out when it is deemed safe to do so and may be cancelled at short notice. Fire crews will remain on site until safe to leave and will continue to patrol the area in following days.
