DICKSON TARKIGHIR RESIGNS, JETS OUT TO THE 2014 AFRICA-US INFRASTRUCTURE CONFERENCE IN WASHINGTON DC. By Bemgba Iortyom. Leading contender in next years House of Representatives election for Makurdi/Guma Federal Constituency, Hon. Dickson Tarkighir, has voluntarily resigned his appointment with the Government of Benue State as a Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Industries. Hon. Tarkighir is understood to have shortly afterwards flown out to the United States of America to attend this years Africa - US Infrastructure Conference holding at Ronald Reagan International Centre in Washington DC. The aspirant turned in his resignation letter dated 3rd October, 2014, and addressed to the Secretary to the State Government, in which he cited, as reason, a need to answer the call by his people to serve them in elective capacity. In the letter, he also appreciated Gov. Gabriel Suswam for affording him the opportunity to work closely with him in the capacity of a senior Aide, in the course of which he said he acquired experience such as will be cognate to function as a federal parliamentarian. Born on 12th April, 1969, Hon. Dickson Tarkighir, an MBA graduate of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, who hails from Guma Local Government Area of the state, is renown as a successful businessman, with pace-setting investments in outdoor advertising, entertainment, as a well as hospitality. Findings show that he is considered a leading contender in the race on strength of his having previously ran in the same race in 2011, during which, sources reveal, he was only stopped from clinching the PDP ticket ahead of incumbent Emmanuel Jime by the intervention of Gov. Suswam. Hon. Tarkighir is currently seen by many as enjoying the benefit of his already established political structure built over time, and which has since swung into action, putting him ahead in the race with evident ease and expertise. He is also said to be riding on the goodwill of the people of his area whom they say he has been beneficent to in various ways, including assistance in scholarship, medi-care as well as gainful employment. As a delegate of the Nigerian-USA Export & Investment Group (NUEIG), the businessman cum politician is attending the USA conference which is organized by the Corporate Council on Africa, with the theme as Building Resilient Cities. Speaking to this reporter by phone from the Ronald Reagan International Centre in Washington DC, venue of the conference, Hon. Tarkighir expressed optimism that the experience and contacts network accruing to him from his participation in such conferences would serve to position him strategically at the National Assembly, if he is voted to represent his people. He also considers himself most suitable to offer effective representation to his people at the House of Representatives come 2015 on account of his orientation for results and vast exposure to global trends and channels of investment and development. The aspirant revealed that he will be back in the country in a weeks time and shall proceed to pick his nomination forms for participation in the House of Representatives Primary Election of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) slated to come up on the 19th of next month.
