DID YOU KNOW? EXPEDIA RESERVATIONS FOR CAR RENTALS IN GEORGIA ARE NOT REALLY RESERVATIONS AT ALL AND, IN FACT, MANY HIDDEN CHARGES APPLY IF YOU ACTUALLY LIVE IN GEORGIA?? (CAN THEY ACTUALLY HAVE A POLICY SPECIFIC ONLY TO ONE PARTICULAR STATE THAT THEY DO NOT ENFORCE IF YOU LIVE ANYWHERE ELSE??) THE GREAT DEAL YOU THINK YOU FOUND IS ACTUALLY A GREAT, BIG SCAM (IN MY OPINION). HERE IS WHAT HAPPENED TO ME: *Comments: For my car rental reservation with Payless, that was supposed to have occurred xxxxx Itinerary # xxxxxxx, I am writing to make certain that you did not charge me anything for this rental. If you did, please refund it promptly. I went to the airport to pick up my car at the agreed upon price and was shocked to learn at the counter about all of their additional stipulations and charges that would have brought the grand total for my $200 rental to more than $750!! The counter representative refused to allow me to drive with my own insurance because she said she needed to verify the insurance with a live person over the phone before they would accept it. It was a Sunday afternoon and I could not reach anyone over the phone in order to have a person verify it to her, but I was able to log into my account over the phone to assure her that I did have full coverage but that was not acceptable and was going to require me to take their insurance plan. She got the manager to speak to me after a long wait, and after I left (with my 7 year old child in tow who was having to go through all of this after pulling her own luggage through the ATL airport terminal and through several buildings and riding on a train to the ground transportation area) and went to the Enterprise Counter where I have rented in the past without any problem, they told me that it was not a legal requirement to verify the insurance. Once I returned to speak with the manager and tell him what I learned at Enterprise, he agreed to sign off on my own insurance, but then stated that they needed a $350 deposit that would be forfeited if the car was returned late. Never mind that they kept me for three hours in the airport when I should have been on the road headed for our already pre-paid through Expedia hotel room that was at least five hours away and I was trying to avoid having to drive at night... but I knew it was non refundable so we were in a bit of a bind and they knew it. Since I had never been told about a deposit, I did not have that much money immediately available in the same account that I was using to reserve the vehicle, but I offered to pay it anyway with a different card and they refused to allow it, stating that they had a policy specific to Atlanta/Georgia residents and that if I had flown in from anywhere else and rented the car, it would be okay, but since I actually own a home and live in the immediate area, I am somehow less trustworthy and am obligated to put up extra money that was never mentioned in any of the paperwork online. I had no choice but to leave and drive my own vehicle without having the time to have it inspected for safety for driving on the Interstate but fortunately we arrived at our hotel safely, albeit nearly midnight rather than in time for dinner as originally planned. As I mentioned, I had a child with me which made it all the more frustrating because it was her Spring Break and we were visiting her grandparents and she had been so excited about helping me pick out the car and hotel online, so she thought maybe she had done something wrong and didnt understand why we didnt get the nice car like we had planned on driving down. Seriously, if you could have seen the tears in her eyes, you would have been heartbroken and shocked that the car rental agency would leave a mother and child stranded after three hours of giving us the runaround like that. When I left, I asked the manager what we were supposed to do about the fact that I had already reserved it with Expedia and he said that it didnt matter because it was never charged anything unless they completed the transaction at the counter. I hope to goodness that he was not feeding me another line, which is why I am double checking with you to be sure that there is no way I will have to pay for a car that they refused to allow me to rent as previously agreed. I did everything right as far as I can tell and should not be held responsible for the horrible business practices of this car agency, Payless (Pay More) who obviously tried to milk us for all they thought they could get by telling us lies and then trying to bully us into nearly committing every last cent of our vacation money to simply renting a car for six days. I am furious that I wasted my time with them, wasted money parking at the airport, got my childs vacation off on a terrible start and was forced to drive a car that was unsafe for the highway rather than rely on the rental that had been reserved for us. I am not expecting you to compensate me for this hassle, but I hope you will consider whether or not your explanations of the hidden charges is sufficient or will investigate whether abuse of the system is taking place. Nevertheless, I am simply asking that you make certain that my account was not charged for this failed rental. Please reply promptly. Kind regards, Ms. Miller
