DID YOU KNOW? Manual authorisation means that the train is given either a written or verbal permission to pass the red robot (signal). Only one trains can be authorised or given permission to move at a time. For example, if robots or signals are not working between Johannesburg and Doornfontein station-One train will move from Johannesburg to Doornfontein before the second train can be given permission to move. The person giving permission to the train driver is called the Train Control Officer (TCO). The reason you cannot have more than one train permitted to move is to ensure safe movement of trains.
