DID YOU KNOW? On August 28, 2013, AB 1215 was signed into law by Gov. Brown. Effective January 1, 2014, Clinical Laboratory Scientists (CLS), both generalists and specialists, can serve as laboratory directors. This law authorizes a person licensed as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist and qualified under the federal Clinical Laboratory Improvements Act (CLIA) to additionally perform the duties and responsibilities of a waived laboratory director, as specified under CLIA. AB 1215 was sponsored by CAMLT and other labor organizations.
