DID YOU KNOW THE ORIGIN OF HALLOWEEN was and is all about - TopicsExpress

DID YOU KNOW THE ORIGIN OF HALLOWEEN was and is all about respecting/praying for dead loved ones. This Christian tradition called All Hallows Eve was mocked (made fun of) by people who twisted All Hallows Eve to create Halloween. Instead of respecting/praying for dead loved ones, Halloween is all about fearing the dead. Halloween is a distraction to the real reason for the holiday. The word Halloween or Halloween means hallowed evening or holy evening. In Ireland and Britain, some Christians (not all Christians) traditionally believed that the veil between the material world and the afterlife thinned. Around October 31st, it was seen as a time when the spirits or fairies could more easily come into our world. Some Christians would make cakes filled with allspice, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger or other sweet spices, raisins or currants, and before baking them were topped with the mark of a cross to signify that the soul cakes were alms. They were traditionally set out with glasses of wine for poor children on All Hallows Eve as an offering for a dead loved one. Each cake eaten by a poor child would represent the soul of a dead loved one being freed from Purgatory and allowed to go to Heaven, if that dead loved one was not already in Heaven. Giving soul cakes to poor children is often seen as the origin of giving candy to children door-to-door today, in modern times. Also, wearing costumes on Halloween was something people did back in those days to disguise themselves from evil spirits (some people might still wear masks to disguise themselves today, in modern times). This time of year was also known as Samhain, a Gaelic festival marking the end of the harvest season (October 31st) and the beginning of winter (November 1st). The souls of the dead were said to revisit their homes they lived in. Get understanding of certain traditions/holidays before you practice them. Ask yourself what is this and why do people do this?
