DID YOU KNOW............................. WHO ARE WE? HFH of Harnett County, Inc. is an affiliate of HFH International. Our Harnett County affiliate was created in 1993 and we have just completed our 20th Habitat House in Harnett County and making plans for House #21! WHAT DO WE DO? HFHHC is a non-profit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry that seeks to eliminate substandard housing in Harnett County by making decent shelter a matter of conscience and action. HOW DO WE OPERATE? Habitat for Humanity is a people-to-people partnership, drawing families in need and communities together with volunteers and resources. HOW DO FAMILIES GET A HOME? HFHHC provides a hands-up system----not a hand-out----by working with families who desire to improve their current situation but need support in doing so. There is no other non-profit in Harnett County providing low-cost home ownership in the same manner as Habitat. Habitat builds homes using volunteer labor, and then sells the home at cost to families who then make monthly payments but pay no interest. The selected family must have sufficient income to be able to afford the payments, and must work 500 hours of “sweat equity” by working on their own and other Habitat homes. Habitat is not a give-a-way program----it is a partnership. HOW ARE THE HOUSES PAID FOR? Money is raised from private sources-individuals, churches, companies, organizations. Some also donate property or building materials. Our building fund is also funded by the mortgage payments from Habitat families return to the building fund to be used in building future homes.
