DILAPIDATED ROADS IN SOUTH-SOUTH.BY COMRADE UNO UNO INYANG. One of the bases for militant restlessness in the Niger/Delta region was as a result of social amenities that was suposed to b accrued to the region, anchored on the fact that the region is the revenue stream of the nation. To this end,we had envisage that the emergence of a minor from this region as president will combat this lapses. It is rather apocalyptic that there is no difference on rehabilitational and infrastructural development in this region. It is only in south-south you will find TRUNK A roads with a single lane too narrow to contain trucks. The northern regions has dualized roads which connects to feeder roads. It may be referenced to them spearheading the affairs of the government for ages, how about now.what is the difference. It is conceived that all our budgetory allocations and fiscal policy is now centred on security, but even at that,we are still rightly aware that not all the money allocated to security are used judiciously. If no why are the insurgent still parading our street with ease?. This is anchored on the fact that they are more sophisticated in equipment than the armed forces. Again, even militant invasion had its adverse effect directly on the economy because investors were those kidnapped and ransom demanded. This to a large extent made companies despondent towards having treaties with the governmen. Yet still, the then dispensation was able to carry out developmental projects in their various regions and geo-political zones. It is on this backdrop i channel the enitire country to the dilapidated road of ikot ikpeni/Umuhia road which has degenerated from bad to worse. It is no more motorable, thus people subscribe to a small village road nearby which is surrounded by youth each 10meters away demanding tribute for plyin their road, since its not a federal road... Even a jeep cannot pass through there. Aba road is notting to write about. Similarly, cross River road is so bad. Especially Calabar/Itu road. The major reason why tanker drivers go for industrial action at will, mostly in Calabar as a result of the bad road and the huge sum which they have to pay for road maintenance, yet notting is done. Then what is the dividends of the so preached democracy when our roads are too narrow and full of port holes.what are the infrastructural modalities and strategy assigned to south-south?.Bayelsa is a state that was supose to be entittled to bridges: thus creating avenue for civilization. A tour to such hinterland will live you wondering if that is part of Nigeria. No drinkable water as a result of oil drilling and spillage. Aquatic habitat which create occupation for the masses is drastically reduced as a result of chemical deposit. Then i ask.what has the south-south benefitted so far? We have become the bread winner that dont eat bread. We need positive change. A leader who does not appease his own brethren first, when he is rejected, where will he run to for succor?.we stand in the river and there is soap in our eyes.( the irony of life.)now their seeking second term. Of what benefit is it to us from south-south? sign, guardian of posterity.
