DIPLOMACY......... A PATHFINDER FOR SHELVING AND SOLVING, MISUNDERSTANDING, PROVOCATION, QUARELS, AND CONFLICTS Happy Sunday my people, I want to share a little thing with us, a word that could have stoped the first and second world war, a word that could have stopped the Arab uprising, a word that would have stopped the Nigeria Civil war, a word that would have stopped the Boko haram menace, a word that would have prevented the Militancy in Niger Delta, abinitio, a word that would have prevented the some little provocations from turning into a full blown violence, that word is DIPLOMACY DIPLOMACY Oxford Advanced Learner, Eight Edition ( 2010 ) Defined Diplomacy as a skill in dealing with people in diffcult situation without upsetting or offending them it is tactics, strategy or modus operandi use by diplomatic communities or diplomat which can be anybody trained or instintively equiped to handle issues as it unfolds. However, when I was a young lad in primary and secondary , a couple of decades ago, I had witnessed a couple of pockets of violence, riots, break of order and demonstrations, I always asked myself, what could be the problem ? , could all these pockets of violence, not prevented ?, I guess, it has been rheoteric, because I have never received an answer, hitherto, I was still wandering like the Archemdes till he shouted Eureka on proving his Archemdes principle of physics , I guess, I have seen the answer I was looking for, after many decades , the answer is not far fetched from DIPLOMACY. In my University days, at University of Nigeria, we were taught a course called Peace and Conflict studies , it is true to mention that conflict is a neccessity to life, but we should understand that it is not an architectural design by God, and the conflict mentioned in that context is a mere conflict which occur as a negligence of diplomacy. Furthermore, a family is a microcosm of a macrocosm called society , every society has a norm or rules and regulations guilding it existence, individualistic temperamental diffrences initiates misunderstanding or a negative sense of humour, which when not may not be in accordance to the rule of law governing the particular society , when this phenomenon occurs, the first strategy to implement is to use Diplomacy. Looking at the state structures and international rules and law, when there is a little or suspision of misunderstanding, the state involved calls the Ambassador or the agency involved to look into the issue with the view of arresting the issue in bud stage inorder to prevent it from blowing Into violence, when Organisational head, Admin, Directors, Managers,Ministers, Commisioners, Chancellors , and other societal heads or head of state agencies, decides to make changes on their wills, which are not in accordance to rule of law or as it is stipulated in the code of conduct or even constitutions, misunderstanding is bound to occur, loss of confidence , hatred and conflict will occur. It is pertinent to pinpoint that neglect , intimidation , inequality, non chalant attitude to complaint, inability to fulfill promise, poor conditions and inhumane treatment , etc are some of the reasons for misunderstanding, provocations, quarrels and conflict, when any of this happens, the following Diplomatic Strategy is the call of actions towards ending those afore mentioned situations. Consequently, let look at the following diplomatic strategy or tactics : 1. Work towards finding supporters and recruits for your idea or stand on an issue 2. Maintain an unbiased and balanced perspective to hear both, or multiple, sides of a situation. 3. Learn about your opponents needs, strengths, and weaknesses. 4. Work on maintaining a levelheaded approach, but progressive towards action. 5. Look for clues of weakness in your opponent; these will help you to determine what you need to overcome when re-evaluating your offer. 6. Determine your opponents or partners key needs and standards to negotiate successfully with you. 7. Create foreseeable and realistic steps in the near future to reach a valuable goal for both parties 8. Listen, understand, and repeat back your opponent or partners ideas and themes; this will not only ensure that you have received the information correctly, but that you are willing to pay and give attention to what is most important. 9. Delegate responsibilities of specific actions to necessary people so that you can get to the heart of the matter easily and successfully. 10. Set standards with your body language, vocabulary, and usage of strong words; avoid small talk in a diplomatic conversation that often leads nowhere. 11. Balance your emotions and with actions in order to reach a positive resolution and create next steps. Finally, Negotiaton and conflict resolution are skills that develop with experience, situations, and various challenges. In the workforce, conflict resolution is a key trait of strong leaders who are often veterans of managing disputes, conflict, and behavior in a team environment. In politics, diplomatic approaches are exercised by many politicians and liasons to solve world and national affairs, attempt to provide resolution, and create new or alternative approaches to overcoming obstacles. Most importantly, the art of diplomacy is an ongoing process that requires a strong desire to come to a viable and sensible conclusion. Although all parties may not concede to all plans, diplomacy allows room for specific steps to be taken towards a shared goal and end result. Diplomacy had been used by. Political scientist as a vital tool for tackling conflict, provocations , quarrels and conflict. I submit, we should try to apply diplomacy first when trying to settle an issue, aggression, abuse, caricature and derogatory words had never settled issues, treat of attack, force, and removal from association is never a best way of handling issues, I believe if any of the diplomatic strategy is taken into consideration . My country Nigeria, should use Diplomacy to tackle the Boko haram menace, they should try diplomacy . DEDICATED TO ALL MEN OF PEACE, PEOPLE WHO HAVE LOST THEIR LOVE ONES IN CONFLICT, PROVOCATIONS, ESPECIALLY WAR STRICKEN COUNTRIES LIKE CENTRAL AFRICAN REPUBLIC, SOUTH SUDAN, SOMALIA, SYRIA, PALESTINE, PARKISTAN, IRAQ, AFGANISTAN, RWANDA, CONGO . UNITED NATION SHOULD TRY TO TALK TO SYRIA NATIONAL COALITION AND SYRIA GOVERNMENT TO END BLOOD SHED IN SYRIA, ISREAL AND PALESTINE CONFLICT, TALIBANS AND PAKISTAN, SELEKA REBELS AND ANTI SELEKA IN C.A.R, AND VERY IMPORTANTLY RUSSIA AND UKRAINE.....
