DISABLED ACTIVIST EARLY CHALLANGE TO OUR NEWLY ELECTED LEADERS ???????? In November 2005,birth out of the American with Disability Act alias ADA ,came an Act to establish A NATIONAL COMMISSIONS ON DISABILITIES. It is an autonomous agency in the Republic of Liberia, championed by the National Legislative Assembly (NTLA) under the stewardship of one of Liberia most selfless businessman , chairman Gyude Bryant. The Act is comprised of 11 vague sections, of which all ,but 2, are adhered to; and they are sections one and 7. Section one speaks to a qualify disabled and her code of officers being costodians of the disabled ,while the later speaks to budgetary appropriation for the education, social and economic development of all disabled persons with in this act. While these 2 sections are important, the remaining 9 hold equal importance ,but are overlooked by law makers because the leaders of the NCD are voluntarily week, and are afraid to speak truth to power, less they loose their jobs. That is when we come in. In 2012, an international Human Rights Confrence headed by NCD concluded that since the ratification of the United Nations Convention on the Rights and dignity of persons with disabilities, the GOL and stakeholders as well as corporations have choosen with deliberate indefference to continously subjugate the disabled to wanton suffering by not implementing an iota of this covenant . The disabled in Liberia are homeless, die from preventable diseases, uneducated, jobless , crawls to ambulate, eat off dumpsters , exploited by the very GOL through the illegal and unconstitutional GO77, and that need to stop! And the only way for it to stop is, if the disabled fully represented themselves in Parliament. Persuant to section 9 of the ACT, reads in full : That immediately after the passage of this Act, considering the numerical strength of the disabled population in Liberia which constitutes over 16% of the general populace, a special national constituency is hereby created to accommodate and facilitate the representation of the disabled community at the National Legislature, with at least (3) Legislatures which shall be elected to speak and foster the cause of disabled people in the National Legislature. WILL THIS ONE EVER HOLD !!!! The answer to this rhetorical question is YES. If Liberia and Liberians should be taking any seriously, we will have to first take ourselves seriously. We need to take upon this challenge and overcome, because it is good for our democracy. It epitomizes one nation indivisible with Liberity and justice for ALL THAT IS WHY I WOULD LIKE TO CHALLANGE OUR NEW LAW MAKERS TO CHANE THE STATUS QUO AND MAKE YOUSELF LEGENDS OR STICK TO BUSINESS AND USUAL AND BECOME VICTIMS. Its not hard to do:Kenya did it and even our neighbors Sierra Leone next door. Liberia is the oldest nation on the continent and should remain a role model for other merging African democracies to follow.
