DISCUSS! Is there too much money in politics? Having worked on a number of campaigns, I believe there is on an ethical level. Some of the most heavily funded runs for office are often wasteful, they dont guarantee outcomes (think Eric Cantor, Howard Dean, Newt Gingrich), and starving constituents of candidates are in much more dire need of money bombs than the average multi-million dollar super PAC. At a legal level though, I think laws that would restrict donations to campaigns the way many Citizens United opponents suggest would only make shady political elements even shadier, and also force a lot of dealings underground that would otherwise be public knowledge. I also take issue with certain campaign finance reform plans to publicly finance campaigns over their insistence that people be forced to pay for candidates they dont like.Seems far from free and fair to me. Speaking of money in politics, it looks like Mitch McConnells reelection bid could be the most expensive senate race in history. (Posted by J. Bobay)
