DISCUSSION #1 When did WWII start? If youre like historians and most history teachers, World War II started on September 1,1939 with the invasion of Poland. But lets think, did WWII actually start on September 1? The actual start date is debatable. A couple days ago, I posted an article about the Italian invasion of Ethiopia, which occurred in 1936. Some historians actually considered this to be the first strike of WWII. The Japanese invasion of Manchuria occurred in 1931, eight years before Germanys first attack. They were invading others before Hitler even came to power. But we can go further back. Some people, including Winston Churchill himself, thought that WWII was just an extension of WWI and that the Treaty of Versailles basically acted as a cease fire (which it kinda was) and that both wars was just a 30 year war.
