DISCUUSSION TIME: I have noticed with great concern that godliness and righteousness is not a monopoly of any organized religion, not even the popular denominational Christians and Islam. As a Christian, I have had very funny occasions where those who claim to be close to me caution me about my relationship with some people just because they are Muslims, Buddhists, etc or members of Eckankar, AMORC, Grail Message, etc. Frankly, I have allies in most religions and in the Christian faith; I have friends that cut across diverse denominations, even those that are considered awkward by the mainstream Pentecostals. One very interesting thing I have discovered is that irrespective of their varied opinions and beliefs, there are some who are not even Christians or Muslims, who believe in one thing or the order but are living what I can vividly describe as godly lives. They hardly cheat, they are dependable, trustworthy, and in love with God and God’s creation including plants, animals and fellow man, yet most Christians see them as sinners and unbelievers. I ponder over this most times I have a close dealings with these people and I don’t think I would be wrong to conclude that the name of one’s religion does not really make a difference but the heart of the believer. Most Christians and Muslims believers are worse that those we openly criticize so harshly. In Nigeria, for example, most government officials are either Christians or Muslims. Yet, they steal with impunity, deceive the masses and are dangerously selfish. Most armed robbers, kidnappers, pirates, human traffickers, terrorists, cultists and ritualists belong to organized religions. They are hardly pagans. Most major wars in modern history were caused by believers. Slave trade was run by believers. The most notorious prostitution rings in the world are in Christian countries. Most terrorists are from Islamic countries. Does this mean that our religions are not imparting positive virtues on the people? Or are the people just hiding under religion? Let’s talk.
