DJ Scratch: Heres a few facts that certain people wont mention for - TopicsExpress

DJ Scratch: Heres a few facts that certain people wont mention for some odd reason. THE FIRST DJ Battle Crew are the [Supermen].There wouldnt be any Battle Crews if it wasnt for The Supermen. Rob Swift: This is NOT TRUE. The Disco Twins from Queens, NYC were battling dudes before the Supermen were formed in the late 80s. Disco Twins was battling DJs from other neighborhoods, boroughs, etc. as early as 1982. Probably earlier than that. DJ Scratch: DJs & crews named after Superheros were because of The SUPERMEN. Rob Swift: This is FALSE. Grand Master Flash got his name from a comic book character named FLASH GORDON. Grand Master Flash is at least 2 generations before the Supermen. Marinate on that one. DJ Scratch: The slang term Turntablist wouldnt exist because it came from a Battle Crew, but no one mentions that. Rob Swift: Another FABRICATION! No one mentions that because the term Turntablist was inspired by Grand Mixer D.STs work on Herbie Hancocks Rock It. Grand Mixer D.ST was THE FIRST DJ to actually be incorporated into a live band. DJ Scratch: Clark, Richie Rich & I were performing in Arenas, Stadiums & Major TV Shows, showing the rest of the mainstream world how a DJ at a high level can use a turntable as a instrument. Rob Swift: This is a DISTORTION! Yeah, the Supermen were exposing the art form to the masses BUT pioneers like Grand Mixer D.ST, Jam Master Jay (RIP), Mix Master Ice, The Get Fresh Crew (Chill Will & Barry B), were all performing in Arenas, Stadiums & Major TV Shows, showing the rest of the mainstream world how a DJ at a high level can use a turntable as a instrument... before the Supermen. Thats like me taking credit for collaboration with a Rock Group Linkin Park knowing Jam Master Jay worked with Aerosmith. Feel me? Understand something yall. I have nothing but respect for ScratchVision, Ritchie Rich and Clark Kent. All of them made a mark on the Battle/Turntablist culture we know and love. For purposes of full disclosure... when Clark Kent was an A&R at East West Records, he would invite Roc Raida (RIP) and myself to chill with him in his office on multiple occasions. To this day, I have fond memories of sitting in front of his desk with Raida as we listened to Damon Dash (yeah, that Damon Dash) and Clark school us on the business of DJing. As much of a rivalry there was between The X-men and the Supermen, Ill always appreciate that about Clark, and yes, Clark Kent and I had our differences in the past but he also played a pivotal roll in providing a forum for me to expose myself to many of the fans I have today. With all that said, I cant let DJ Scratch rattle off mistruths or make misleading comments about this culture. I love it too much to let that slide. Not on my watch. Not while Im still here doin this thing we call Turntablism. X-MEN FOREVER!
