DMU has teamed up with Leicester University to encourage as many people as possible join the Anthony Nolan stem cell register. Our pioneering Mile2 team – who have already signed up more than 1,000 people to the UK register – has joined forces with Leicester Marrow, a volunteer group at the UoL. We’re all working with the amazing Rik and Kas Basra. Rik, whose life was saved by a bone marrow donation, runs the Rik Basra Leukaemia Campaign. Look out for our first joint event called Be a One Spit Wonder at the UoL Students’ Union on November 28. To join the register, you must be between 16 and 30 – and you join by giving a saliva sample. Joining the Anthony Nolan register involves filling in a form and providing a saliva sample and, for those called to donate, in 90% of cases the procedure is similar to giving blood. rikbasra
