DO NOT MISS THIS ONE!!! After being away from his homeland for about seven years, renowned gospel artiste Jerry Lloyd has returned and will headline the God’s Favour Upon Me gospel concert on November 29. The concert will be held at the Old Mill Cultural Centre in Canefield from 7:30 pm. Tickets, priced $20 in advance are available at the CLC Bookstore in Roseau or $25 at the gate. “Jerry is one of the gospel icons, one of the pioneers of gospel in Dominica and he decided to do a concert after being away,” one of the organisers of the event, Ellen Paul said. Speaking to Dominica Vibes on Friday, November 22, Jerry Lloyd stated, “Dominica is in my heart everywhere that I go.” He added that it was time to get back on the road again and what better place to start than home. However, his second reason for returning home is as a result of a concern that he has. “I have an urgent concern that we need to pass on the values and the reasons for doing what we do that has brought us thus far to the next two generations down the line.” Mr Lloyd stated that persons like him have opened a number of doors in music and therefore, “now it’s time for the generation that is presently playing to know and to understand why and what so that they can carry the mantle with the proper motivation”. He will be performing some of his old music and a few new songs accompanied by a local band. Local artistes Sernel and Sonz of Zion (S.O.Z) are also scheduled to minister at the event. Part of the proceeds will go towards furnishing the resource centre at Loubiere. Moreover, following the concert Mr Lloyd will facilitate a workshop at the Loubiere Pentecostal Church on November 30 from 10 am. “I look at what we are about to present as rudiments of the ministry…when I got into contact with Ellen after communicating for a while we began to talk about the concerns with and in the ministry in terms of what’s positive that’s happening and what are the things that need tweaking and development,” he stated. He said in their discussions it became “obvious” that they shared some of the same concerns and continued discussions had shown that “some of the areas which we had developed in the past are areas that are suffering right now”. Therefore being a facilitator of worship, singing, music seminars he decided what better place than at home to “develop what we have, what we do, and what we present”. “These are stuff that has to with not just doing what you do but doing it at the level of excellence.” Topics to be discussed are events planning, song writing, stage performance, voice training, music production, voice training, artiste development, understanding your local music market verses music industry and hands on practical. All worship teams, musicians, singers and more are invited. Seminar fees cost $20 per person or $50 for a team of seven, a team of 8 and more cost $75. Dominica Vibes News
