DO YOU REMEMBER THIS STORY.?? Kirumira arrested for soliciting bribe Publish Date: Like 1 By Charles Etukuri Officer in Charge of Nansana Police post Kirumira Muhammadi ‘Mwoyo Gwagwanga’ famed for fighting hardcore criminals in the areas of Kisaasi, Nansana, Kisenyi, Bukoto, Wandegeya, Nakulabye among other places has been arrested. Yesterday the police admitted they had detained Kirumira after they received a complaint from suspects who had been arrested and detained in Nansana. “PSFU officers arrested him and they have temporarily detained him at Nsambya as they investigate the matter to its conclusion,” Police spokesperson Fred Enanga said. Enanga said that PSFU was following up an alleged case of abuse of office and professional misconduct against the officer after they received a complaint that he had solicited for a bribe from the suspects.“There was some money allegedly paid and this was now the balance that led to his arrest,” Enanga added. He however said these were still accusations and that PSFU would ensure it fully investigated the matter to find out the truth. Kirumura is still being detained at Nsambya over allegations that he solicited and obtained shs 200,000 bribe. But in his defence, Kirumira said he had had been framed by his colleagues in the force who are protecting thieves. In an interview with New Vision, Kirumira said he had been summoned to Police Standards Unit in Bukoto. “When I reached there I was charged with demanding a bribe after one of the criminals whose case I was handling sent money on my mobile phone. The money was meant for compensating a complainant whose money he had stolen. I have now been detained at Nsambya police barracks,” he said. He admitted that the money had been sent to his phone and that he had withdrawn it and handed it over to a complainant. “But the suspect who sent it now says that it was a bribe,” he said. Kirumira blames his arrest on some of his colleagues who have not been happy with the way he has been conductings his operations to flush out thugs in the area he has been posted to. “Two years ago, I was arrested by the same unit on allegations that I assaulted a thief I was arrested and taken to court. But the same criminal was shot dead in Bweyogerere,” Kirumira said. Kirumiras most current woes started last week when he arrested Majwega Henry Ssenkayi on allegations that he was the mastermind behind the counterfeit business in Nansana. “I was also investigating him on claims that he could have handled stolen property,” says Kirumira. He said he was not surprised by the arrest. “I expected this the day I began fighting violent criminals. I don’t regret the service I have rendered to this nation,” he said. Early this year, Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander Felix Kaweesi praised Kirumira for being one of the most dedicated and able policeman. However sources in the police told the New Vision that in the course of his duty, many policemen accused of protecting criminals in the areas where he carried out operations were arrested or transferred. Could this have motivated his current arrest?
