DOHA , JUL 22 - Twenty one Nepali migrant workers in Qatar reached the Nepali Embassy in Doha for help on Sunday after their employer denied them their salary for six months. They said they were forced to leave their quarters after a man named Kapil employed to look after the overall management of the facility started threatening and thrashing them. “He [Kapil] had been ordering us to leave the quarters for a week. We came here with all our belongings after we could not tolerate his misbehaviour,” said Rana Bahadur Ale from Gorkha. The victims said they had not received salary since January after their employer closed their bank accounts at Kapil’s behest. The workers, who had left for Qatar through the Kathmandu- based Skyway Management, Tiger Overseas and Saan International, were working for the Gulf Real Estate Company. They said they had not eaten anything for two days. “I have not got salary for nine months,” said Ramesh BK from Dharan, who reached the Qatari capital nine months ago. The migrant workers said that their company was yet to provide them ID cards, which provide legality to them. BK said that his two colleagues were held in August for the lack of ID cards. Indradev Pandey, labour attaché at the Nepali embassy, said efforts were being made to solve their problems. “It will be difficult to send them back home as they lack the IDs. We are holding discussion on their accommodation as it takes more than a month to issue ID cards to them,” he said. ~~~ Kantipur
