Throughout my life he engrained in my mind that if you find something you are passionate about and run with it you will find happiness. My father doesn’t simply share this message, he leads-by-example. My name is Samantha Smith and my dad Jeff Smith’s passion is working on a mission trip he takes every year to Kentucky. Unfortunately this past July he was unable to go because he was diagnosed with a brain tumor. The doctor told him if everything went well he would need up to six weeks of recovery and without missing a beat my dad said, “So, I can’t go to Kentucky?” Well, unfortunately things didn’t go well. Which is why I’m reaching out to you. We need to raise money because the medical bills and everyday living expenses are adding up. We as a family are struggling. You see, after surgery there were complications. And my dad suffered a stroke. Today, he has limited capacity on the left side of his body and his speech and cognition have been affected. He needs 24-hour care and rigorous physical, occupational, and speech therapy. Because the tumor was malignant he had to undergo radiation and chemo and therefore wasn’t able to participate in his rehab services at full capacity because of fatigue. Today he is confined to a wheelchair. To get better, he needs to stay at a facility. In October he suffered a blood clot and an infection that once again put off his therapy. Despite these set backs he’s never complained. Now he has a new motto; “getting better and stronger everyday.” Even in his current physical state, he truly appreciates everyone involved with his care. Before the surgery we had all expected him to be home and back in action at his normal capacity. However, six months later he is still in a rehab facility fighting an uphill battle with a long road ahead. It’s amazing that through everything he’s endured he’s still fighting and optimistic. Even though my mom works, losing my dad’s income has proved too great a loss for our famiy.. Fortunately, we’ve had financial support from family and friends, but their funds are limited. That’s why I’m reaching out to you. Every family faces hardships. My family greatest challenge is now. My dad’s passion is working to help people he doesn’t even know…. Just maybe you share his passion and have the compassion to help our family with a donation. Any amount you can afford our family is so very much appreciated.
