DONT CRY Why do we cry when we lose a loved one? Do we cry because their life was cut short and they will miss out on special events still to come? Or do we cry for ourselves, because we wont be able to enjoy their companionship, hear their words of wisdom, or ask them questions to which only they have the answers? Perhaps our tears are for their family members for whom we feel sympathy or empathy! For in much wisdom is much grief: and he that increaseth knowledge increaseth sorrow. (Ecclesiastes 1:18 KJV). The Bible says that, as Christians, we should grieve differently than non-Christians: But I do not want you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning those who have fallen asleep, lest you sorrow as others who have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so God will bring with Him those who sleep in Jesus. (1 Thessalonians 4:13-14 NKJV). Because we have the promise of the resurrection and reunion at the second coming of Jesus, we should be able to draw on that hope for strength to continue living life according to Jesus example. Theres a difference between moving through our grief and pretending to be managing your sorrow. Pretending means putting on a mask, in essence lying about your feelings. Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful; and the end of that mirth is heaviness. (Proverbs 14:13 KJV). Is it wrong to put on a happy face when your heart is crying? Thats between you and the Lord! When Jesus died, the disciples forgot all the times where He told them that He would be sacrificed, that that would be the fulfillment of His mission on earth. But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,. (John 20:11 KJV). It took angels telling her that Jesus was once again alive, it took looking into the empty tomb, it took Jesus speaking her name for Mary to come to realize Jesus had truly returned to life!
