DONT SETTLE FOR LESS (THERE IS MORE)! By Pastor Joseph Oladele at the 2015 Sandy Cove Prayer Retreat Bible References: Joshua 14:9-15; John 10:7-14 (EMP v. 10); Ps 23:1-6; Eph. 3:20; 2 Pet. 1:3-4; 1 Corinthians 2:9-12 Brethren, to not settle for less means that there must be more. When we talk of “less” or “more” we are talking about the inheritances and precious promises of God for his children. We are talking of your- HEALING, PROSPERITY (MONEY), PEACEFUL HOME/MARRIAGE, GODLY CHILDREN and everything else that pertain to life and godliness. Scripture is filled with Gods promises of “more” for his children. We are not called for “less”, we are ordained for more. The thief (Satan) came to give us less, to rob us of what we have, but the master (Jesus) came to fill us to the overflow (John 10:10). Even though the master has delivered much to us in the heavenly places (2 Peter 1:3-4), we have a responsibility to take delivery of what had been delivered. The greatest weapon the enemy is using against us is our ignorance. Hosea 4:6- “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge” not for lack of prayer or fasting. Dont settle for less also implies that you have a choice in the matter to decide if you want more or you want less. Yes, we have the promises of great things but they will not fall on us by wishing or hoping, we have a responsibility to contend for those things delivered to us through our Lord Jesus. We are commanded to contend/fight Jude 1:3, 1Tim 6:12. Satan will not surrender easily; we MUST FIGHT FOR OUR INHERITANCE!!! Brethren, life is war; you will get nothing lying still. In Mark 10:46-52, Blind BARTIMEAUS had to contend for his healing. He was told to keep quiet but he cried the more. He eventually got the attention of the master and his story changed. If you keep quiet, you problem will stay with you. YOU MUST CONEND!!! WHERE YOU HAVE BEEN TOLD “NO” IN THE PAST, THIS YEAR YOU WILL GO BACK THERE AND GET A “YES” IN JESUS’ MIGHTY NAME!!! We would look at 3 case studies of those who refuse to settle for less and 2 who settled for less… PEOPLE WHO REFUSED TO SETTLE FOR LESS DAUGHTERS OF ZELOPHEDAD (Numbers 26:33, 27:1-11) The daughters of Zelophehad refused to settle for less/nothing. They pleaded and fought for their inheritance. God heard then and vindicated them. The law was reversed for them. Your silence has emboldened the devil to have the audacity to plummet your inheritance. In 2015 you must say an EMPHATIC NO! CALEB (Josh. 15:13-14) From our main text, we see Caleb a man who chose to obey God and was given a promise of inheritance by Moses. 40 years had passed, he was now an old man, but this man would not settle for less. He came to Joshua to demand for his inheritance. He was given his inheritance and he drove out the illegal occupants- the sons of Anak occupying his inheritance. JABEZ (1 Chron 4:9-10) Not often do you enjoy genealogy list. But a little story was tucked in the midst of genealogy of Israel. This is the story of a man who refused to be just another name on the pages of the bible. A man who just didnt want to be remembered for who he begat or who begat him! His story was captured on just 2 verses but we are still talking about it today because it arrested our attention. This man refused to live an ordinary meaningless existence. He made a demand of the God of heaven to bless him indeed. He refused to accept less, he wanted more and God heard him. PEOPLE WHO SETTLED FOR LESS ADAM & EVE (Gen 3:1-24) Emp v 24 - Adam and Eve were driven out of the abundant life, the life of more that God had given them and driven to a life of less, a life of thistles and torns – v17-19. They were demoted from a life of more to a life of less. ESAU (Gen 25:29-34) Esau belittled his birthright; he disregarded what God has given him by his birth position. He settled for less. Jacob became the progenitor of the Jewish/Christian Faith, though Esau was the first born. Esau settled for less, because of a morsel of pottage. Afterwards, he wanted back his inheritance but it was too late for him (Heb. 12:16). Esau ended up being Edom, the father of the people of Mount Seir (they eventually got wiped out by Jehoshaphat). They never amounted to much. Jacob became the father of the nation of Israel, the chosen people of God! Any appetite that you cannot tame, will ultimately lead to your downfall. WHAT CAN BRING LESS TO A MANs LIFE? Sin/disobedience to God (Adam & Eve). There is a thief called the devil after your inheritance- he wants to give you less for your more. Ignorance of your inheritance. HOW DO I TAKE HOLD OF MY INHERITANCE? Live a pure life. Holiness empowers, sin brings reproach. Get knowledge of the Word of God. Discover what your covenant rights/inheritance are in Christ Jesus. Fight for your inheritance. Contend earnestly for it. You need the help of the Holy Spirit to get you to your inheritance in God. 1 Corinthians 2:9-12 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God. For what man knoweth the things of a man, save the spirit of man which is in him? even so the things of God knoweth no man, but the Spirit of God. Now we have received, not the spirit of the world, but the spirit which is of God; that we might know the things that are freely given to us of God. PRAYERS POINTS Psalm 144:1-2 Blessed be the LORD my strength which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight: My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me. PRAYER: Lord, you are my fortress, my high tower, my deliverer, my shield, teach my hands to war and my fingers to fight! Subdue my enemies under me!!! Every strongman holding back my joy, peace, healing, prosperity, fruitfulness, favor, job, excellence in life and ministry, I bind you IJN (Matt 12:25-30, 1 John 3:8). Job 20:15 He hath swallowed down riches, and he shall vomit them up again: God shall cast them out of his belly. PRAYER: Every of my blessing swallowed up by the power of darkness, be vomited in Jesus name! Lord cast it out of his belly READ Isaiah 49:24-26 !!! Even the captives of the mighty shall be delivered, etc, etc, etc PRAYER: Wherever I have been bound by the Power of darkness, I am free in Jesus name! I loose my children, my spouse and family from satanic captivity in Jesus name! Lord this year, let me break forth to the east and to the West! I enter into my inheritance! I take back everything stolen from me in Jesus’ name! Every law, decree working against my well-being either in this country or overseas, father for my sake reverse the irreversible! Let a new law be put in place to favor my cause in Jesus’ name! Every illegal occupant sitting in my blessing/inheritance - I send you packing in Jesus’ name! I destroy every descendant of Anaks in Jesus’ mighty name! Lord, change my meaningless existence to glory! Give me a status that generations after me will remember!
