The epicentre of the quake was located 70 km northwest of Iquique in northern Chile, at a depth of 32 km, the USGS said. No injuries or damage have been reported so far. 20:30 US, Germany to conduct surveillance flight over Russia and Belarus A joint mission of Germany and the US will conduct the surveillance flights over Russian and Belarusian territory within the framework of the international Open Skies Treaty (OST). The surveillance flights are scheduled to be carried out from 17 to 21 March. The flight will be carried out on the Swedish observation aircraft SAAB-340, chief of the National Center for Nuclear Risk Reduction Sergey Ryzhkov told reporters. Earlier this week, as a confidence-building step, Russia’s Defense Ministry gave permission for a surveillance flight by Ukraine over Russian territory near the border between the countries, after Kiev claimed Moscow was building up its military presence there. The Treaty on Open Skies entered into force on January 1, 2002, and currently has 34 States Parties. It establishes a program of unarmed aerial surveillance flights over the entire territory of its participants. 14:54 North Korea fires 25 missiles North Korea has test-fired 25 short-range missiles into the sea off its coast, South Korea’s Defense Ministry said. According to officials, 10 rockets were fired at 0920 GMT, with launches continuing until 1103 GMT with eight more missiles being fired – one every five minutes, RIA Novosti reported. Another series of launches followed at 1228 GMT. A South Korean Defense Ministry spokesman said the type of rockets wasnt yet clear, according to AP. The test missiles apparently come in protest against ongoing American-South Korean military drills, which Pyongyang sees as a preparation for an invasion. 11:47 N. Korea fires 10 short-range missiles in ten minutes North Korea launched 10 short-range missiles into the East China Sea on Sunday evening, the Yonhap news agency reported. The launches started at 6:20 pm and continued for about 10 minutes. The missiles traveled approximately 70 kilometers and landed in the sea. The latest demonstration of Pyongyang’s military capabilities came in response to joint US-South Korea military drills, a source in Seoul said. 05:00 India suspends search for missing Malaysia Airlines jetliner India has put on hold the search and rescue operation of the Malaysian Airlines’ Boeing 777 that disappeared on March 8. There’re no immediate reports of injuries or damage. 00:15 Hacktivist group takes down NATO websites Ukrainian hackers have claimed the responsibility for cyberattacks that brought down several NATO websites on Saturday. The hacktivist group, Cyber Berkut, says the attacks on NATOs primary website and its cyber defense center website were carried in retaliation for NATO’s role in increasing tensions in Ukraine. The group also says that NATOs Parliamentary Assembly was also down due to a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack. Last week, the group claimed responsibility for attacking some 40 Russian sites.
