DPE3169 Phal. (cornu-cervi f. sanguinea x Phal. cornu-cervi frma. chattaladae) Capsule parent on the left. Pollen parent on the right. And the tag is written Ladies first, with the capsule parent on the left of the X and the pollen parent on the right. In most cases it makes no difference which species is used as the capsule parent in an interspecific cross with regard to what the offspring will look like. I know many hybridizers who can site examples that it does matter and a population from an inverse mating will create discernible grex specific traits that differ from the opposite mating. But I cant. And unless we are talking about traits determined through mitochondrial inheritance I cant see that there could be any statistically notable differences. My understanding of basic genetics does not allow there to be differences. On the other hand, the number of chromosomes of the capsule parent vs the pollen parent may be important as to whether a cross will actually prove viable. I dont know. So I think you will get pretty much the same trait spread in the offspring no matter which plant is used as the pollen or capsule parent.
