DRAMA MINISTERS YEAR OF OPEN DOORS - MESSAGE 10 RISING AGAINST THE LORDS ANOINTED 1 Samuel 24:5-7 5. Now it happened afterward that David’s heart troubled him because he had cut Saul’s robe. 6. And he said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.” 7. So David restrained his servants with these words, and did not allow them to rise against Saul. And Saul got up from the cave and went on his way. He was a loyal servant to his master. He had sat in his presence and played for him harps with good music whenever he (the king) was in trouble of the spirit. He had been his armor bearer. He had been his son-in-law. He loved the king and had served him with all his heart. He was the best friend of the kings son. He had been captain over some of the battalions of the army. He had defended the king with his blood, but this king of Israel hate this man. The king possessed a strange spirit of jealousy and envy against David. He hated him with passion, since the day the ladies of Jerusalem sang a song of praise to honor him after slaying Goliath, the king had been possessed with terrible hatred against David. And he had done all what he could do to destroy him. Twice, he hauled a javelin at him to pin him to the wall of the palace, and on each occassion, he had escaped from death. At last he was exiled into the forest and wilderness, where he was living inside caves of rocks. This spirit of envy and jealousy that produced hatred and bitterness in the heart of king Saul against David would not allow him to rest. He still pursued him into the wilderness to kill him there, so that his throne could be secured, so he thought. On one of those days of deadly blind chase, he came searching for David in the wilderness and after a long time of aimless search, he came to sit down and rest at the mouth of the cave inside which David had been hiding. so David now had the chance to kill his enemy. His servants who were in the cave with him wanted David to give them an order to kill Saul, and end this mad chase, but he restrained them from doing him any evil, so he cut the edge of Sauls robe as evidence of his physical closeness to him. Even then, Davids spirit still troubled him for causing a damage to his masters beautiful war robe. Then, he said this important statement to his servants: I Samuel 24:6. And he said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.” The lesson I learnt in the life of David is Submission and Honor to Spiritual Leadership. And this is where many of us have missed it. This man wanted to kill David, and David still regarded him the Lords anointed. This man had chased him into the wilderness and had paid him evil for good and had made his life miserable, yet, he had regarded Saul well and called him, my master. He had kept on protecting him from harm, despite the fact that the man himself had done all possible things to harm him. David honored his leader and still paid him respect ad his master. Very difficult lessons. David called and regarded Saul as the Lords anointed, even though it was evident he was a jealous and envious man. Even though it was apparent, he was a killer and thirsty for the blood of David, yet, before, David, king Saul was his master and leader and an anointed man of God. The rest is left for God to Judge. That is the lesson. Your leader and pastor is the Lords anointed. The President of your ministry or Pastor of your church is the Lords anointed and your leader and master. As long as The Lord had anointed him as the leader of that ministry and pastor of that church, he becomes the Lords anointed and master and leader over you. If he wants to kill you or mess up your life, like David, you ought to run away from him, and avoid him, but never try to cut off his robe from behind, because he is the Lords anointed. 1 Samuel 24:4-5 4. Then the men of David said to him, “This is the day of which the Lord said to you, ‘Behold, I will deliver your enemy into your hand, that you may do to him as it seems good to you.’” And David arose and secretly cut off a corner of Saul’s robe. 5. Now it happened afterward that David’s heart troubled him because he had cut Saul’s robe. Cutting his robe from behind was like trying to cause him embarrassment or stripping him naked. Even if you realize he has a terrible spirit of envy and jealousy, because of the gifts The Lord has deposited in your life, never, lose sight of the fact that he carried the Lords anointing still. Never, bring a sword behind him to cut of his robe so that he goes about with torn clothes. You know what that means, disgracing him behind, so he goes about with torn clothes. This was one of the reasons The Lord honor David and lifted him up. He honored his master and leader. Mark all those who specialize in cutting their masters robe from behind, they never excel. The heart of David smote him and he felt sorry. He repented. Then, David said to his servants (I Samuel 24:6.) “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my master, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him, seeing he is the anointed of the Lord.” It is always a great sin in the Lords presence to stretch your hand against your pastor, president of your ministry or spiritual leader. Rising up against him openly or secretly to sabotage his efforts, deliberately working against him or ganging up against him is working against the Lords anointed that will produce a terrible consequence, because, it is working against the Lords anointed. One of the virtues and characters that brought David to the position of limelight is humble submission and honor to his leader and master and refraining from doing his leader and master any evil. 1 Samuel 24:18-19 18. And you have shown this day how you have dealt well with me; for when the Lord delivered me into your hand, you did not kill me. 19. For if a man finds his enemy, will he let him get away safely? Therefore may the Lord reward you with good for what you have done to me this day. Do you know that what king Saul said to David was a fatherly blessing, evening though his life was not right with God? Does it mean that a spiritual leader and master, even though, hostile, wicked and unholy can still pronounce a blessing upon his faithful followers? YES.
