DREAM KILLERS Distractions Imagine your dream is to win the Boston marathon. You have overcome all the nay Sayers who tried to tell you that you cannot make it. The fear you had when you begun on the pursuit of your dream is a thing of the past because you have been able to overcome it. Apart from that, you have trained hard and you are as fit as you have ever been. The gun goes off and the whole crowd takes off everybody determined to walk away with the winning prize or at least finish the race. Now this is your very first time in a foreign country and as you are running, you cannot help but notice the great roads and skyscrapers. You notice the flamboyant shops and the attractive restaurants. As you take in all these nice things you begin to slow down as you lose focus of your dream and soon enough you are no longer running, instead you are walking from shop to shop admiring all the things they have on offer. You are jolted back to reality the moment you walk into a huge electronic shop and all the TV screens are showing the marathon, focusing on the three athletes that are leading the pack. What good things are taking your attention away from the dream that God has laid in your heart? Nehemiah 6:1-4 (CEV) Sanballat, Tobiah, Geshem, and our other enemies learned that I had completely rebuilt the wall. All I lacked was hanging the doors in the gates. Then Sanballat and Geshem sent a message, asking me to meet with them in one of the villages in Ono Valley. I knew they were planning to harm me in some way. So I sent messengers to tell them, “My work is too important to stop now and go there. I can’t afford to slow down the work just to visit with you.” They invited me four times, but each time I refused to go.. When Nehemiah begun building the walls, these same individuals were the nay Sayers. They spoke all manner of negative things to try and discourage Nehemiah and his team from going on with the work but they did not succeed. Now that they see that the work is progressing well, they look for all manner of tactics to try and distract Nehemiah from accomplishing his dream. Nehemiah is so focused and he says he is doing a great work he cannot come down. The moment you begin to work on your dream, you can rest assured that all manner of things will come up seeking your attention so as to distract you from living your dream. Some of them will be good things that are quite attractive. Will you like Nehemiah be able to say i am doing a great work i cannot come down? Only you will be able to answer that question when that time comes. PRACTICAL APPLICATION Focus on the finish line and keep running!
