DURGAPURS ENGINEERING COLLEGES FACING TOUGH TIMES: Trouble erupted in Dr B C Roy Engineering College in Fulljhore on Friday as more than 3,000 students started an agitation demanding removal of college principal Somenath Basu. Students of second, third and fourth years sought the removal alleging that Basu frequently misbehaved with them. The college authorities on Friday night instructed all boarders to vacate the hostel. College chairman Dulal Mitra, however, told : A section of students have been trying to disturb the first-year admission process. We will not allow indiscipline in the college. In another development, teachers who were sacked from BCET started a relay fasting from Saturday to protest against the authorities. They brought out a rally in Bidhan Nagar on Friday demanding intervention of higher education minister Partha Chatterjee in the affairs of the college and their reinstatement. On Thursday, the BCET sacked the teachers for their refusal to join in promotional activities of the college in bus stands and railway stations.
