Dad came home from the hospital Friday night with a feeding tube that reaches below his swollen and ulcerated small intestines. He is feeling soooo much better. Besides tube feelings He also gets to eat a clear liquid diet. he is already quite sick of jello, broth and Popsicles. As the week progresses he will get to eat a soft to liquid non clear bland diet, things like malt o meal, liquid mash potatoes, etc. the idea is to let the bowel and pancreas rest until he can eat and keep food down without nausea and vomiting. Due to his heart going whacko during his hospitalization and with the new diagnosis of atrial fibrillation, he came home on a bunch more meds. Mom is doing a great job of managing that part of his care. So far I work the feeding tube and pump but mom is learning. Today I brought home ribs to mom from Applebees and for the first time in a month dad looked longingly at our food instead of getting nauseated so that was the best sign yet of his healing. A good friend brought home-made chicken broth which I think really helped his appetite as well. His injuries still make sleeping in bed too uncomfortable so nights are long for he and mom as he gets restless and is up and down from his recliner all night. Monday he has his first follow up visit to the cardiologist, and then we will start making him do more walking outside to rebuild his strength. All in all things are going well.
