Dadgum.....its hard to get back into the swing of hard work when ya have been off gallivantin all over the country! But darn it....we really need to get back to work cuttin firewood for this comin winter! With all the Aspen an Cottonwood trees beginnin to turn gold, we know that while we may have yet another month of decent autumn weather, winter could be upon us before we know it. So today we packed our chainsaws up the west ridge an cut firewood. Not far from the forest road, we found a large well seasoned pine tree that had gone down sometime back. Still feelin a might lazy an not wantin to work too darn hard we figured it would be an easy job so we decided to get it. However, we soon realized that the steepness of the ridge was goin to make what looked rather simple into more of a challenge than we had bargained for. Unfortunately wed not bothered to switch out of our cowboy boots an into our loggin boots....which quickly proved to be a major mistake! Now down hill skiing may be fun in the winter, on snow, but we didnt have on snow skis an there was no snow on the ground but we were skiing - or rather skiddin an slippin backwards for every step forward. Add the fact that we were wieldin chainsaws an this becomes a tad bit dangerous. But with our stubbornness in finishin somethin that we started, along with a fair amount of dumb luck, we prevailed an somehow managed to get the tree de-limbed, then cut into small logs that we could easily wrestle out of the forest an down to the road. From there we were able to use the ATVs to skid it all to the barnyard. Photos for today: Wranglin firewood!
