Daily Bible Reading from BibleStudyTools September 25, 2014 - English Standard Version 1 John 3:1-24 1). See what kind of love the Father has given to us,... that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2). Beloved,... we are Gods children now,... and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears we shall be like him,... because we shall see him as he is. 3). And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure. 4). Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. 5). You know that he appeared to take away sins,... and in him there is no sin. 6). No one who abides in him keeps on sinning; no one who keeps on sinning has either seen him or known him. 7). Little children,... let no one deceive you. Whoever practices righteousness is righteous,... as he is righteous. 8). Whoever makes a practice of sinning is of the devil,... for the devil has been sinning from the beginning. The reason the Son of God appeared was to destroy the works of the devil. 9). No one born of God makes a practice of sinning,... for Gods seed abides in him,... and he cannot keep on sinning because he has been born of God. 10) By this it is evident who are the children of God,... and who are the children of the devil: whoever does not practice righteousness is not of God,... nor is the one who does not love his brother. Love One Another 11). For this is the message that you have heard from the beginning,... that we should love one another. 12). We should not be like Cain,... who was of the evil one and murdered his brother. And why did he murder him? Because his own deeds were evil and his brothers righteous. 13). Do not be surprised,... brothers,... that the world hates you. 14). We know that we have passed out of death into life,... because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death. 15). Everyone who hates his brother is a murderer,... and you know that no murderer has eternal life abiding in him. 16). By this we know love,... that he laid down his life for us,... and we ought to lay down our lives for the brothers. 17). But if anyone has the worlds goods and sees his brother in need, yet closes his heart against him,... how does Gods love abide in him? 18). Little children,... let us not love in word or talk but in deed and in truth. 19). By this we shall know that we are of the truth and reassure our heart before him; 20). for whenever our heart condemns us,... God is greater than our heart,... and he knows everything. 21). Beloved,... if our heart does not condemn us,... we have confidence before God; 22). and whatever we ask we receive from him,... because we keep his commandments and do what pleases him. 23). And this is his commandment,... that we believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and love one another,... just as he has commanded us. 24). Whoever keeps his commandments abides in God,... and God in him. And by this we know that he abides in us,... by the Spirit whom he has given us. 2 Chronicles 36:1-23 Judahs Decline 1). The people of the land took Jehoahaz the son of Josiah and made him king in his fathers place in Jerusalem. 2). Jehoahaz was twenty-three years old when he began to reign,... and he reigned three months in Jerusalem. 3). Then the king of Egypt deposed him in Jerusalem and laid on the land a tribute of a hundred talents of silver and a talent of gold. 4). And the king of Egypt made Eliakim his brother king over Judah and Jerusalem,... and changed his name to Jehoiakim. But Neco took Jehoahaz his brother and carried him to Egypt. 5). Jehoiakim was twenty-five years old when he began to reign,... and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD his God. 6). Against him came up Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and bound him in chains to take him to Babylon. 7). Nebuchadnezzar also carried part of the vessels of the house of the LORD to Babylon and put them in his palace in Babylon. 8). Now the rest of the acts of Jehoiakim,... and the abominations that he did,... and what was found against him,... behold,... they are written in the Book of the Kings of Israel and Judah. And Jehoiachin his son reigned in his place. 9). Jehoiachin was eighteen years old when he became king,... and he reigned three months and ten days in Jerusalem. He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD. 10). In the spring of the year King Nebuchadnezzar sent and brought him to Babylon,... with the precious vessels of the house of the LORD,... and made his brother Zedekiah king over Judah and Jerusalem. 11). Zedekiah was twenty-one years old when he began to reign,... and he reigned eleven years in Jerusalem. 12). He did what was evil in the sight of the LORD his God. He did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet,... who spoke from the mouth of the LORD. 13). He also rebelled against King Nebuchadnezzar,... who had made him swear by God. He stiffened his neck and hardened his heart against turning to the LORD,... the God of Israel. 14). All the officers of the priests and the people likewise were exceedingly unfaithful,... following all the abominations of the nations. And they polluted the house of the LORD that he had made holy in Jerusalem. 15). The LORD,... the God of their fathers,... sent persistently to them by his messengers,... because he had compassion on his people and on his dwelling place. 16). But they kept mocking the messengers of God,... despising his words and scoffing at his prophets,... until the wrath of the LORD rose against his people,... until there was no remedy. Jerusalem Captured and Burned 17). Therefore he brought up against them the king of the Chaldeans,... who killed their young men with the sword in the house of their sanctuary and had no compassion on young man or virgin,... old man or aged. He gave them all into his hand. 18). And all the vessels of the house of God,... great and small,... and the treasures of the house of the LORD,... and the treasures of the king and of his princes,... all these he brought to Babylon. 19). And they burned the house of God and broke down the wall of Jerusalem and burned all its palaces with fire and destroyed all its precious vessels. 20). He took into exile in Babylon those who had escaped from the sword,... and they became servants to him and to his sons until the establishment of the kingdom of Persia,... 21). to fulfill the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah,... until the land had enjoyed its Sabbaths. All the days that it lay desolate it kept Sabbath,... to fulfill seventy years. The Proclamation of Cyrus 22). Now in the first year of Cyrus king of Persia,... that the word of the LORD by the mouth of Jeremiah might be fulfilled,... the LORD stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia,... so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom and also put it in writing: 23). Thus says Cyrus king of Persia,... The LORD,... the God of heaven,... has given me all the kingdoms of the earth,... and he has charged me to build him a house at Jerusalem,... which is in Judah. Whoever is among you of all his people,... may the LORD his God be with him. Let him go up. Psalm 90:1-17 From Everlasting to Everlasting 1). Lord,... you have been our dwelling place in all generations. 2). Before the mountains were brought forth,... or ever you had formed the earth and the world,... from everlasting to everlasting you are God. 3). You return man to dust and say,... Return,... O children of man! 4). For a thousand years in your sight are but as yesterday when it is past,... or as a watch in the night. 5). You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream,... like grass that is renewed in the morning: 6). in the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers. 7). For we are brought to an end by your anger; by your wrath we are dismayed. 8). You have set our iniquities before you,... our secret sins in the light of your presence. 9). For all our days pass away under your wrath; we bring our years to an end like a sigh. 10). The years of our life are seventy,... or even by reason of strength eighty; yet their span is but toil and trouble; they are soon gone,... and we fly away. 11). Who considers the power of your anger,... and your wrath according to the fear of you? 12). So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom. 13). Return,... O LORD! How long? Have pity on your servants! 14). Satisfy us in the morning with your steadfast love,... that we may rejoice and be glad all our days. 15). Make us glad for as many days as you have afflicted us,... and for as many years as we have seen evil. 16). Let your work be shown to your servants,... and your glorious power to their children. 17). Let the favor of the Lord our God be upon us, and establish the work of our hands upon us; yes,... establish the work of our hands!
