Daily Blog – 3/7/2014: I don’t care if Monday’s blue. Tuesday’s gray and Wednesday too. Thursday I don’t care about you. It’s Friday, I’m in love. Okay, Im Cured... Friday’s are good days. I work for Friday. Friday is my “think outside the box day” at work. The day I work on special projects; those tasks that are always outside the normal scope of your work. It is a little bit like coming out of the bathysphere- a form of decompression. Working in industry these days is pretty taxing. Everyone’s wanting yesterday’s results and tomorrows vision on their desk by Monday, and the tone is… just get it done. The good thing about Fridays is that most of the very people who turn the levers—the bosses—they eject on Friday. So, we goons are left to run the company, and really, that’s the way it is by design. I heard a salty old man say one time about the Army, “Everyone in the Army knows that the whole Machine runs better if the Captains and Generals get out of the way and let the Privates run things.” It’s no different in Corporate America. Bosses do the thinking and strategic planning as leaders (as in lead us in a direction). We worker ants then actually walk the march. Bosses fly to at the egress point, waiting for you with a bottle of champagne, to wish you a job/march “well done.” Of course the celebration is short-lived, and you’re quickly handed new marching orders. Cycle; repeat. Friday is the day everyone leaves work early. Friday is the day you get paid. Friday is the day you go spend your money on whatever it is that you like to do on the weekends. Shore leave. In the stock market, Friday’s is a good time to buy, a horrible time to sell. You sell low, but you get to buy low too. The Big Boys, Insitutional Investors, and hedge fund managers, have already left town, and are relaxing in a cabana in the Caribbean. The rest of us fight over the scraps. Still, we go to our places of comfort as well, and we await like jackals for the arrival of Monday, knowing that the Lions will be hungry and have wallets wanting to buy, buy, buy! Cycle; repeat. I got to do a Daily Double today. As a man, that means I got to go hang out with friends for a time, and then I got to come home and enjoy some time with my Rib. Today was a pretty good day. All my missions were accomplished. The Daughter is actually staying home tonight, so I don’t have to moonlight as an unpaid taxi driver (which is an extra bonus). I got to sample some of my friend’s home brew; I cooked a meal for the family in 37 minutes; and I’ve even managed to fulfill my commitment to my Daily Blog (in the eleventh hour). On top of that, it’s looking like we won’t have any more snow, or fires in the fireplace, but I still got my fingers crossed. Me and my Rib actually lit a fire tonight outside as well, and enjoyed a rare intimate moment together hanging out in the woods. Life is good. Life is what you make it. Some people may have better life’s, but they don’t have mine. It’s Friday! I’m in love! Still, I’m praying for the people who are suffering today; who experienced loss today. Who, (like myself) will wake up with the same problems as the day before. There is hope. Don’t bank on it necessarily happening in this World though. Be like Solomon and enjoy the day, but know that troubles will be back knocking on your door; if not this Friday, then the next. Seize the day! saisir le jour PEACE!!!
