Daily Devotion July 7 Psalms 120–134 Welcomed Worship “I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the Lord.” (Psalm 122:1) This statement of the Psalmist about being glad to go to the house of the Lord is not the spirit of many church members. Rather, many church members begrudge the opportunity to worship. They prefer to be off on some boating or camping or fishing trip instead of being in church. But one’s attitude towards worship reflects one’s devotion to God. You may belong to a fundamental, Bible-believing church; but if you are not excited about worship, you have a spiritual problem and your relationship with God is definitely faulty. We ought to be glad to go to church. There are many reasons why we can be glad to go to church to worship. We cite just three of them. They concern our faith, future, and freedom. Faith. We can be glad we can go to church to worship, for at church our faith is not only honored but it is also helped. We live in a world that despises our faith and tries to diminish our faith. This is a major problem for our children in the secular schools. It also is a major problem for many at work. But at church our faith is honored and helped. And our faith is more important than anything else in our life. Future. We can be glad we can go to church to worship because it addresses the future with hope. This life is short at its best; then there is eternity ahead. Where will you spend eternity? When we go to the house of God to worship, we learn about the future and how to be prepared for the future. The world will not prepare us for the future. They only view the present. But wise men recognize that we must give great priority to preparing for the future if we are going to have an eternity that is joy and not judgment. Freedom. We can be glad we can go to church to worship because this means we have freedom to worship. Many folk in many nations of the world do not have that freedom today. Persecution has destroyed many churches and prohibited many from worshiping. But we have freedom in our land to worship. However, if you do not use your freedom to worship, you will lose the freedom to worship. Few losses are greater.
