Daily Devotion and Meditation: Luke 5:4-11 4 When He had stopped speaking, He said to Simon, “Launch out into the deep and let down your nets for a catch.” 5 But Simon answered and said to Him, “Master, we have toiled all night and caught nothing; nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.” 6 And when they had done this, they caught a great number of fish, and their net was breaking. 7 So they signaled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both the boats, so that they began to sink. 8 When Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, “Depart from me, for I am a sinful man, O Lord!” 9 For he and all who were with him were astonished at the catch of fish which they had taken; 10 and so also were James and John, the sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. And Jesus said to Simon, “Do not be afraid. From now on you will catch men.” 11 So when they had brought their boats to land, they forsook all and followed Him. Peter and other fishermen had toiled all night and caught no fish. But as soon as Jesus showed up He instructed Peter to launch out into deep and let down his nets for a catch. I wonder what was Peter thinking when Jesus told him to go out again and let down his nets. He is probably thinking what difference does it make if they have been there all night and caught nothing. He hesitated for a while but finally he said, ‘nevertheless at Your word I will let down the net.’ Peter’s simple and radical obedience to Jesus’ word is what brought them success. First, we should never underestimate the power of the Word of God. No matter how big or impossible the circumstances are God knows best and all we have to do is listened to His voice and trust Him. The still small voice of the Holy Spirit within is the most important voice we need to pay attention. Why? Because He knows everything and He knows what’s ahead of us. He knows how deliver us. He knows how to bring the blessings to us. He knows what’s best for us. He knows what to do. If we find ourselves very discouraged, helpless and looking for an answer, we must be still and know that He is God. He is omniscient and at the same time omnipotent. If we just simply obey and believe greater things will happen in our lives. The bible said, ‘they caught a great number of fish.’ Listening to the voice of the Holy Spirit and obeying what He says will bring great blessings and success in our lives. We will never regret it. We will experience great peace, unspeakable joy and godly contentment when we walk in the Spirit. When we need direction and we need an answer to our dilemma. Let’s be sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit today. Let’s us listen and obey when we hear Him. Trust Him with all your heart and lean not in our own understanding. In all of our ways let us acknowledged Him and He will direct our paths. If you want the Holy Spirit in your life? Just ask God to forgive you and believed His sacrifice on the cross and receive Christ into your heart. Confess Jesus as your Lord and Savior and the Holy Spirit will be with you. God bless you today. In Jesus name, Amen.
