Daily Devotion by Raul Ries THURSDAY August 8, 2013 God Gave & God Saved Ephesians 3:2 if indeed you have heard of the dispensation of the grace of God which was given to me for you, The word dispensation, in the original language of Greek, is oikonomia and it means “the management of a household or of household affairs.” Literally, Paul was talking about stewardship— house management. God made Paul and God made us house managers of the Gospel, our money, our children and everything we possess. According to Paul, we are each stewards of the Gospel of Jesus Christ and the grace of God. If we are supposed to manage the grace of God, how do we manage it? Just as Paul was giving it to the Ephesians and other churches, we are to give the grace of God to the people around us. As a house manager, I do not just give it out but I want to really watch over it, because it is something divine, given to me by God. It is the gift of God to me, and now I want to give to others the same gift of the grace of God. I love the way Paul puts things together. Paul did not only give the grace of God to the Ephesians, but he gave it to each one of us, as he wrote this letter to the Ephesians and we have it to read today. When Paul wrote his letters, he could not imagine we would be reading them today and he would be ministering to us. There is an eternal aspect in giving the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Paul said, “God gave me and God saved me, so I can give you the same grace.” We have the same great responsibility. When God saves you, He wants you to give the same grace to your family, friends and your enemies. I know Christ and I shall never be even; I shall die in His debt. ~Samuel Rutherford~
