Daily Devotional Aug 8 “Never place a period where God has placed a comma…”* Gracie Allen wrote that in her last love note to George Burns shortly before she died. George Burns and Gracie Allen were a comic team and marital partners who performed on radio and TV. Gracie, who was the brains, heart and soul of the partnership at home and on stage, played a lovable airhead whose misunderstandings were laughable. At the end of their shows, George would say, “Say goodnight, Gracie.” She’d say, “Goodnight, Gracie.” When she was dying, Gracie feared for George, and hoping to soften his pain, left him that love note. George Burns continued to act, shared his humor, and lived to one hundred years old. Once, when George Burns was in a restaurant, a young man approached him, saying, “Mr. Burns, I want to act. What advice can you give me?” “That’s wonderful, kid. Keep at it, and if you can fake sincerity, you’ve got it made.”** For all sorts of sincere reasons, we put periods where we ought to put commas. God doesn’t love me (period) God isn’t there for me (period) I don’t believe in God (period) God’s too far away (period) The thing is, God believes in us and is still speaking to us. We just need to remove the period and add a comma. Let’s Pray: Dear God, our own ideas sometimes get in Your way. Sometimes we can block You out, by putting periods and no trespassing signs all over our lives. How about lending us a comma? Amen. Here’s a Thought: God is still speaking,
