Daily Devotional: PERSISTENT FAITH Read: The godly may trip seven times, but they will get up again. But one disaster is enough to overthrow the wicked. (Proverbs 24:16 NLT) Thoughts for Today As we read about godly heroes in the Bible, the term by faith occurs repeatedly. Joshua is no exception. He was a persistent leader led by Gods Word. There are different types of faith, but they all rest on the Word of God. There is faith that receives, as we come empty-handed to Christ for salvation. There is faith that reckons, that counts on God to undertake for us. There is faith that risks, that moves out in Gods power, daring to do the impossible. And there is faith that rests, the kind that, in the middle of pain and suffering and rejection, sits back in confidence that God will deliver. (McArthur, John, Jr., Hebrews: An Expository Commentary, Moody Press, Chicago, 1983, 362-363) Consider this ... God led the conquest of Jericho by reckoning in his heart that God would undertake for them. He and the Israelites took a risk by moving in Gods power and expecting him to do the impossible. Their faith helped them rest in the confidence of God that if they kept on walking and persevering, the massive walls would come down. Finally, this was all possible because Joshua and his people had received in their hearts the promises of God. How about you? Are you ready to persist in your faith even when no solution is in sight? Are you willing to take a risk by following him and expecting him to do the impossible? Trust in God and his Word. Todays scripture says you may trip seven times-but you will get up again.
