Daily Devotional Pray without Ceasing Read Philippians 4:4-9 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. - Philippians 4:6 (NIV) In our women’s Bible study group, some members explained that they have a regular, quiet time for meditating, reading God’s word, and speaking and listening to God. One of our group explained that she didn’t have a structured quiet time but spoke to God on and off throughout the day. But method is not important. What matters is communicating with our Creator. We would not ignore a human friend; why would we ignore God? First Thessalonians says, “Pray continually” (5:17). How do we do that? We can pray as soon as we wake up in the morning and thank God for another day to praise and to serve. When at home we can pray for our family and loved ones. At work we can pray for our colleagues, our bosses, and the business. Travelling also brings opportunities to pray — for those we sit by on the train or bus. Travelling by car, we can pray for other drivers and for the safety of all who are on the road. When walking, we can pray for those we see and for the families in the houses we pass. Travelling by air gives us an opportunity to pray for the places we are visiting or flying over. Prayer can be as natural and continual as breathing. Prayer Dear Lord, we give thanks that you hear our prayers — whenever and wherever we offer them. Amen.
