Daily Devotional The Way to Eternal Life Saturday, August 9th, 2014 Read John 14:1-10 Jesus said to [Thomas], “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” - John 14:6 (NIV) I was running late for an appointment when I decided to call a taxi. On the phone the driver insisted that he knew where to pick me up and wouldn’t listen to my directions. But a while later he called back, having lost his way. Now quite worried, I again gave him directions, using a well-known university as a reference point. Again, he confirmed knowing the place and promised to be there in a short while. But he got lost a second time. After several such conversations, the driver finally arrived. The signposts to my location were all very clear, but the driver had been unable to correctly follow any of them. Reflecting back on this incident, I realize that we are much like this driver in our spiritual lives. Similar to Thomas and Philip in today’s reading, we rely on our own knowledge when we actually do not know the way. We have the Holy Bible, the living word of God to guide us through all circumstances in life, but often we follow its guidance only after we have lost our way. With God’s grace, we can look for guidance and live in right relationship with Christ. The Author Philip Polo (Nairobi, Kenya) Thought for the Day The Bible is our guide for life.
