Academy Award-nominated actor and environmental activist Leonardo DiCaprio has been designated the United Nations Messenger of Peace by UN chief Ban Ki-moon, with a special focus on climate change. 3. The government launched an electronic toll collection (ETC) programme in the country under the brand name FASTag.According to the Ministry of Road and Highways, ETC entails payment of highway tolls electronically without needing to halt the vehicle at the toll plazas. 4. The International Economic Association (IEA) appointed Kaushik Basu as president-elect of the association beginning September 2014. 5. Prime Minister Narendra Modi appointed former McKinsey India Chairman Adil Zainulbhai as the Chairman of Quality Council of India (QCI). Cognizant Technology Solutions Corp acquired healthcare IT services provider TriZetto Corp for 2.7 billion US dollars. The acquisition is aimed at boosting the healthcare business of Cognizant. 10. Goa became a permanent venue for the International Film Festival of India (IFFI). 11. India slipped eights places to be ranked 158th in the latest FIFA rankings headed by World Champions Germany. 12. Researchers at the University of Missouri have created a long-lasting and more efficient nuclear battery that could be used as a source of reliable energy in automobiles and space flight. The battery uses a radioactive isotope called strontium-90 that boosts electrochemical energy in a water-based solution.
