***Daily Independent (Ashland, KY)***Local Boy Does Good On American Idol*** January 21, 2014 Boyd County’s Jesse Cline to be on ‘Idol’ Tim Preston The Independent CANNONSBURG — The audition of Boyd County musician Jesse Cline will be included in Thursday’s episode of “American Idol.” Cline, 19, a 2012 graduate of Boyd County High School, said he is not allowed to discuss the outcome of the show and encouraged area residents to watch this season’s episodes to find out how he did in the nationwide competition. An employee at the Racer’s convenience store in Cannonsburg, Cline said he got a “front of the line pass” for this year’s “American Idol” auditions near Atlanta after participating in daily “The American Idol Experience” competitions at Disney World while he was living in Florida last year. While he had three songs prepared for the moment, the tenor-voiced teen said he played guitar and sang the NeedToBreathe song “Washed by the Water” during his time before the judges. Cline said the audition process, with an estimated 70,000 potential contestants, was an exciting process that put each participant into difficult situations, such as singing at a table while 11 other vocalists are standing nearby also attempting to make a strong impression upon the judges. Without hinting at his own progress on the show, Cline said this was his second attempt to be included among “American Idol” contestants. “I tried in 2011 at Charleston, S.C. I sang ‘Stand By Me.’ They let me sing for about 15 seconds and said, ‘Bye-Bye,’” he recalled with a chuckle. “American Idol Auditions No. 4 — Hopefuls audition in Atlanta” will be aired locally at 8 p.m. Thursday on WVAH Fox 11.
