Daily Manna: A Plea For Revival Friday 09, August 2013 TEXT: PSALM 85:1-13 KEY VERSE: “Wilt thou not revive us again: that thy people may rejoice in thee? Shew us thy mercy, O LORD, and grant us thy salvation” (Psalm 85:6,7). God often grants re-awakening when men recognise their deep spiritual needs and in heart- wrenching agony, plead with Him to come to their aid. When the conditions are met, God releases His power. Israel as a nation is favoured by God. After regaining freedom from Egyptian captivity, God led them to the Promised Land in spite of their inconsistent walk with Him. The inconsistency of the Israelites’ walk with God developed out of their familiarity with Him. With contempt for Him and His word, they lived and acted on the dictates of their own evil imaginations. Absalom’s conspiracy against King David showed a lack of fear for God and His Word. The situation polarised Israel as a nation and threw the society into severe hardship and sorrow. Absalom paid for his crime and his co- rebels also suffered a similar fate. For a nation to go into civil war, David realized there must have been a lot of strain in their inter-personal relationships. But more than that, he knew there must have been hatred, inordinate ambition and hearts strayed away from God; hence, God permitted the unfortunate incident. Therefore, the nation needed a spiritual re- awakening in order to get back to the very centre of the will of God. Many Christian assemblies today have become cold. In many places, the glory of God has departed. It is not re- organisation and re-modelling that is needed but a heaven- sent revival. So, we must abase ourselves and cry aloud for revival. And God, in His mercy, will kindle His fire of revival in our lives and churches. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: A child that stretches his hands is ready for a warm embrace.
