Daily Manna: Don’t Doubt God Monday, June 17, 2013 TEXT: LUKE 1:5-25 Key Verse : “And, behold, thou shalt be dumb, and not able to speak, until the day that these things shall be performed, because thou believest not my words, which shall be fulfilled in their season” (Luke 1:20). It is usually easy to claim to have faith in God until you are confronted with a seemingly impossible situation. At such a time, while you may be struggling to trust God, everything and everyone around you would seem to be saying that you are wasting your time. And because you are human, if you are not careful, you may begin to believe what they say, and what you see around you, rather than God’s words. Zacharias found himself in such a situation. While he and Elizabeth, his wife continued to serve God without blemish, they had no child. Now in old age, all hopes seemed lost. Zacharias as a priest, administered the affairs of the temple, taught the people the word of God, and led them in worship. It was while in this service that Angel Gabriel came with the news that God had heard his prayers: his wife, Elizabeth would conceive and bear a son, who shall be called John. The news was too much for Zacharias to believe. He looked at himself and considered the age of his wife; and he knew that it was humanly impossible for them to have a child. But he forgot that God knows no impossibility. For doubting, he was to be dumb until the child was born. And soon after this encounter, his wife conceived, and for five months hid herself obviously wondering whether it was real, until she truly believed and declared that the Lord had “looked on me, to take away my reproach among men”. At times, believers who are faced with dire challenges and situations in life, make the mistake of trusting their reason or experience. Don’t fall into this trap; it is the easiest way to miss the blessings of God. You must always remember that God answers prayers when He chooses to do so. If you are expecting answers to your prayers, be patient and wait, while trusting God to fulfill His promises for you. The answers may not come today or tomorrow; but surely, they will come. Thought for the Day : God rewards trust more than any other service.
