Daily Manna: Expression Of Love Wednesday 18, September 2013 TEXT: SONG OF SOLOMON 7:1-7 KEY VERSE: “How fair and how pleasant art thou, O love, for delights!” (Song of Solomon 7:6). The story was told of a wild lion trapped in the wilderness and was discovered by a lonely hunter. The hunter left the lion in the cage and fed her regularly for weeks. After much expression of love by the hunter, he set the lion free. The beast later became the bodyguard for the hunter. This shows that every living creature responds to love. Our passage today is a deep expression of love between the bridegroom and his bride. Written by King Solomon, he demonstrated passionate love and affection for his wife. The expression describes the qualities and the beauty of his bride (a Shulamite maiden). When the bride and bridegroom are together, they are mutually fulfilled, but when separation is allowed, there is an interruption in the flow of love. “Return, return, O Shulamite; return, return, that we may look upon thee. What will ye see in the Shulamite? As it were the company of two armies” (Song of Solomon 6:13). This was the heart cry of Solomon to his bride, but there appears not to be a reciprocal attitude for the affection and love from the bride. The expression of love between husband and wife sustains and strengthens the marriage relationship. Christ’s love for us cannot be fully understood and expressed until His light shines into the heart, and the spirit is quickened to recognise the voice of the loving Saviour. Unfortunately, many who are members of the body of Christ (the Church) refuse to admit and admire the affection and love shown to them by the Bridegroom. Avoid the company of ingrates and the ignorant. Plead with the Lord to quicken you if you have become insensitive spiritually so that you can perceive and receive God’s love which has been imputed into your heart through faith. THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: The love of God to man is an undeservedly deep expression.
