Daily Monitor and partnering research company conducted an opinion poll and has come up with very interesting findings. One fact confirmed is that the majority of ugandans trust NRM and trust much more their leader President Museveni than any other political group or contender. Their senior reporter, Yasin Mugerwa put to me some poll based questions and below are my responses to him. Enjoy the reading... Frank Tumwebaze Xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx Hon Minister This is Urgent. Daily Monitor commissioned an Opinion poll and the results show: Mbabazi perceived unsuitable presidential candidate (76 per cent), No need for a new president (60%) especially from rural areas and the poor people as well as people people in urban areas. And if elections were to be held today 57 per cent of Ugandans would vote for Museveni. Dr Besigye in third with 8 per cent 12 per cent undecided. What does this tell us as Ugandans about our politics?? and where does this leave the opposition. What explains Amamas poor performance in this poll. There people we have talked to who blame Amamas poor performance on intimidation by President Musevenis camp and Mobilization of bias The French research firm interviewed 2000 people from all regions and cuts across the demographics. Yasiin Daily Monitor My responses. 1. What does this tell us as Ugandans about our politics?? Answer: It reveals and confirms one fact: That the opposition propaganda about NRM has been consistently rejected by Ugandans. People know what they want. Ugandans appreciate the stability enjoyed over the years and do not see any better alternatives from those aspiring to replace NRM and its founder leader Yoweri Museveni. And this should be instructive to all the usually misguided anti NRM elements. To defeat NRM and Museveni one needs to first get real with what is in the country and move away from politics of the anger to politics of the answer. Ugandans want answers to their day to day livelihood challenges. To defeat the incumbent one must show How superior his/her proposals are to the status quo. 2. and where does this leave the opposition Answer: It leaves them in their usual place of leaving in denial about NRMs achievements and support. And so they they will continue to suffer resounding rejections from the people time and again. Their biggest undoing for themselves is that they want to sell to the people what is not and so they cant achieve any substantial following period! 3.What explains Amamas poor performance in this poll. Answer: Well i dont know why, but one fact is that he is not a new Person from heaven or abroad. He has been here for long and part of the government architecture, and so people know his performance like they know for many others. And this should teach a lesson to all of us politicians our different ambitions notwithstanding. Every body will reap politically what he/she has sown. Ugandans know better who can manage and who cant. 4. intimidation from museveni side The claims of intimidation are baseless. Your very own research has disapproved that. Overwhelming numbers have shown you what they support and what they dont. That is not out of intimidation. They have reasons to account for those opinions. The opposition groups that keep singing loud how they get rigged at every election had better stop their deception and accept the realities of what informs peoples choices. No political actor can win any strength without seizing any new political territory. So its always foolhardy for the opposition to always expect victory at the next the polls without working hard to create serious out reaches in the population and build political networks and thus expand their narrow political bases . They only resort to acts of political posturing on city streets for media attention, and at the end except victory. Victory from where? Its always laughable!
