Daily Prayer – October 10, 2014 by tommymcdearis God, Forrest Gump spoke the truth. Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re going to get. Yesterday a teenager was diagnosed with cancer. The family is not sharing the news yet, but their world is being tossed by the circumstances that have crept upon them. They had no idea what they were going to get, but the news was nowhere nearly as sweet as chocolate candy. Now the future is more uncertain and far more stressful than before, and how this chapter of life will unfold is still to be determined. Grant, O Lord, that we would ground ourselves so firmly upon You that the circumstances will not threaten our faith. You are the source of the strength we need to live with confidence amidst the uncertainties of life. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit, that the grace, power, hope, joy and wisdom of heaven would descend upon us to hold and guide us regardless of whether the day is a delicious dark chocolate truffle or a piece of cheap chocolate with that nasty pink filling in the middle. No one likes the latter, but sometimes that is what we get. May our faith be so certain that whether the day is difficult or beautiful, we would still be able to envision a future filled with possibilities and great expectations. Help us to awaken each day knowing that You are the God of the box, and the wonder of Your presence can make any day seem sweeter. In Your Name we pray.
